HP devices lock screen based on human presence

Some customers recently experienced their devices locking just seconds after leaving their workstations. Certain HP devices automatically lock the screen based on human presence. However, if a clean Windows image was installed, this feature may not be available in the settings. Additionally, the HP software pack is not properly linked to the devices in HP Support Assistant or HPIA.

This issue is specific to the following HP products:
HP EliteOne 840 23.8 inch G9 All-in-One Desktop PC
HP Presence 24 All-in-One with Zoom Rooms
HP EliteOne 870 27 inch G9 All-in-One Desktop PC
HP Presence 27 All-in-One with Zoom Rooms
HP Dragonfly 13.5 inch G4 Notebook PC
HP Dragonfly Folio 13.5 inch G3 Notebook PC
HP EliteBook 1040 14 inch G9 Notebook PC
HP Elite x360 1040 14 inch G9 Notebook PC

To get the necessary app and drivers, download the SP directly from HP https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp147501-148000/sp147672.exe to get the details regarding this SP you can visit https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp147501-148000/sp147672.html.

After installing sp147672.exe you can head over to the Windows settings and navigate to System -> Power & battery, there’ll be a new tab called HP Auto Lock and Awake.

Click on the tab to open up the app to either disable or enable the wanted features:

Please note that this is a custom HP feature and is not related to the embedded «Human Presence» from Microsoft. Newer HP devices might support the embedded feature, which is documented in Managing Presence Sensing settings in Windows 11 – Microsoft Support. The embedded feature can be configured through Intune by using the OMA URIs HumanPresence Policy CSP | Microsoft Learn.
